Miss MEAC Competition to Feature Keynote Speaker Sherri Shepherd From ABC’s “The View” as Young Women Compete for College Scholarships January 17, 2008 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) recently announced the second annual Miss MEAC Competition and Coronation. The image leader pageant was a new introduction to the MEAC line-up last year and due to its overwhelming success, a bigger and better event is planned for this year. The Miss MEAC Coronation, presented by Fashion Fair Cosmetics and Belk Department Stores, will be held on Friday, March 14 at the Crabtree Marriott in Raleigh, NC beginning at 11:00 a.m. Sherri Shepherd, co-host of ABC’s highly rated and extremely popular morning talk show “The View” will serve as the keynote speaker. The coronation is hosted by Geneen Anderson, Weekend News Anchor for WNCN-TV, NBC Raleigh. Tickets are $35 per person or $350 for a table of ten. All MEAC alumni are invited to attend. Contestants from MEAC member institutions will participate in the coronation, with one ultimately being crowned as Miss MEAC for the 2008 Basketball Tournament. All contestants are selected on the strength and depth of their community platform as well as their submitted essay entry. “The College Queen crowned as Miss MEAC will once again represent MEAC’s standard for academic excellence as well as a strong commitment to her community. The MEAC tournament has always focused on basketball. However, it also stands for much more including scholarship, achievement and reuniting with friends and alumni in a cordial environment. Miss MEAC is another example of how we are developing the next generation of leaders.” said MEAC Commissioner, Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. Sherri Shepherd is a comedian and actress, in addition to co-host of ABC daytime talkshow “The View.” She was a regular on the ABC sitcom “Less Than Perfect” and held roles in feature films such as “Guess Who” and “Beauty Shop.” Sherri can currently be seen reprising her hysterical role as Angie Jordan, wife to Tracey Morgan’s character, on the NBC’s Emmy Winning “30 Rock.” Additionally, Sherri will be seen in the upcoming feature film “Push” along side Paula Patton and Lenny Kravitz, directed by Lee Daniels (Monsters Ball) and she has just been added to the cast of Dreamworks “Madigascar: The Crate Escape,” where she will voice the character of Ben Stiller’s mother.
